Xanthan Gum is a high molecular weight polysaccharide produced in a pure culture fermentation process. Xanthan gum helps to solve your needs of thickening and stabilizing aqueous system including suspensions, emulsions and foams. Xanthan gum’s unique properties include:
- High viscosity at low shear rate
- Highly pseudoplastic / shear thinning property
- Soluble in cold and hot water
- Ability to stabilize oil emulsions in water
- Stable over broad PH and temperature ranges
- Application synergies with starch and other hydrocolloids
- Effective in low concentrations
- Excellent suspension
Its properties make it a useful matrix component for drug delivery systems. It forms stable drug suspensions in aqueous media and soft gels with locust bean gum or guar gum.
